Sometimes a cow is just a cow...

2022

I generally happen to see cows in unexpected places, and it is always a thrill to see them graze far from man in peace.
This very cow was different though. She was unable to have her calves so the owner of the farm had confined her in isolation, where nobody could see her fence. The cow was fat and forgotten. No pasture, no mount was in front of her.
In Ancient Mesopotamia cows were worshipped as the animals of prosperity, the God of the Moon madly falls in love with a cow and impregnates her, Gilgamesh's mother is said to have been a wild cow, or a "lady of the wild cows". Cows were one of the interpreters of the divine.
Today they are mostly stuffed in cells, wired to machines and abandoned when they are deemed useless. Whenever a creature is deemed useless, something in her environment is malfunctioning.
In this picture you can see the spent gaze, the flies, perhaps the loss of smell.
Each animal has a story. Better to be eaten than mistreated.
Give this cow back to her Moon God!
